Stand up straight before you die!
Bring out what you hide behind,
bright is your burning ember!
Make mistakes on life’s journey,
as those will be remembered!
Await life’s fate with a smile,
raise your voice and sing with pride,
stand up straight before you die!
Imaginary Garden with Real Toads once again sports a stellar poetry form for their Sunday Mini-Challenge. This one is based on the constellation Orion and the name of the seven stars (Betelgeuse, Bellatrix, Mintaka, Alnilam, Alnitak, Rigel, Saiph). The form Longorion is eight lines of seven syllables, where all lines but the first uses the first letter of the stars in a set order (the first line does not have a letter assigned to it since the eighth star is rarely mentioned by name). The above is my attempt at this form.
Orion would say stand up straight before you die to his men (if he had men, perhaps he just hunted alone.)
I don’t remember the myths behind Orion the Hunter well enough to say, actually, but thank you anyway for commenting! *smile*
Very well done response to the prompt.
Thank you!
Very nice response to the prompt. You know, it looks like something the hunter in the picture would say. I enjoyed reading this.
I am really glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
I like the repetition of the first line. Ties it all together nicely. Well done.

I wasn’t sure what to do with that first line, so I wrote the others first… It just didn’t feel as if I’d made my point, so I took the last line and repeated it at the beginning. Feels more held together that way. Thank you!
I like the introduction of a refrain. That last line really brought the message home.
Thank you, Kerry! I enjoy these mini-challenges! 🙂
