Make me angry,
please, I beg!
When I am angry
I am strong!
I like being strong.

Make me strong,
please, I beg!
When I am strong
I am independent!
I like being independent.

Make me independent,
please, I beg!
When I am independent
I am beautiful!
I like being beautiful!

Make me beautiful,
please, I beg!
When I am beautiful
I – somehow – know
that I have all of this within me…

Under cover of evening’s dusk,
in the rustling forest green,
I snuck away.

Packed my poems, my pens
and left.

From a distance
I bore witness
to the warriors closing in
on my hide-out
to punish me
perceived sins.

But I’d snuck out
and I’d hid
none of me did they get!

Their swords raised high
against the darkening sky

as a battle cry
they let loose
before crashing
into my humble abode.

Black horses stirring nervously
at the sound,

I was gone, I wasn’t there!

I could simply not be found,

and I live to write
another day!

I really hate cleaning and there is no flowery, magic poetry on this planet that can change this view:

The dust bunnies are frolicking wildly all around my house,
and it would not at all surprise me if I found droppings from a mouse
behind the sofa that I haven’t moved in many, many years
not to mention the pile of too small clothing I know will reduce me to tears.
Unfortunately there are people coming and I want to somehow impress
so I’m cooking, washing and cleaning – you know, the usual stress!

My mother always tells me that if I only would put things back
where I took them it would be easier and she knows this for a fact.
My mother’s daughter I may well be, but judging by the things I’ve heard
the “sperm donor” is also a big part of me, but I only have her word
for that as I look sullenly at the mess of a desk never used
as a desk, that is, it’s where I store both old bills and sometimes new.

The windows ought to be cleaned as well, something I don’t usually mind
doing, it’s just that today I’m not sure I’d enjoy what I would find
in the world outside if I saw it, probably just more work?
So I’m sitting here procrastinating, trying to not go berserk
and attempt to do everything at once, ending up doing nothing at all.
There’s always tomorrow, there always is… Is that my pillow’s beckoning call?

On Anger

I’ve been looking for anger,
pure, white rage!
I just never thought
you’d be the one
to bring it out.

What if there were no religions? No, not one ‘true’ religion for all, not one ‘right’ religion, simply no religions at all, full stop! No Gods we could pray to or rely on, no devils we could blame… No construct of good and evil we could fall back on. Just our very own free will, proven scientific doctrines and inner emotions.

What would the world be like then?

Did you know that on this day in 1859 French acrobat Charles Blondin crosses Niagara Falls on a tightrope? Or that on this day in 1905 Albert Einstein publishes the article “On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies“, in which he introduces special relativity? And on this day in 1908 The Tunguska event occurs in remote Siberia? On the same day in 1934, five years before the official beginning of World War II, the Night of the Long KnivesAdolf Hitler‘s violent purge of his political rivals in Germany, takes place. This day has also seen some bad avionics incidents, like in 1959 when a  United States Air Force F-100 Super Sabre from Kadena Air BaseOkinawacrashes into a nearby elementary school, killing 11 students plus six residents from the local neighborhood.

On this day in 1969 Nigeria bans Red Cross aid to Biafra and as recently as in 1986 the U.S. Supreme Court rules in Bowers v. Hardwick that states can outlaw homosexual acts between consenting adults!

Some birthdays to commemorate or celebrate on this day are Susan Hayward, American actress (d. 1975) and Lena Horne, American singer and actress (d. 2010) who were both born in 1917, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Finnish conductor and composer (1958), Yngwie Malmsteen, Swedish guitarist (1963), Mike Tyson, American boxer (1966), Ralf Schumacher, German Formula One driver (1975) and Michael Phelps, American swimmer (1985).

If you need a reason to raise a glass of bubbly on this day, then join in the celebration of Philippine–Spanish Friendship Day (Philippines) or the independence of Democratic Republic of the Congo from Belgium in 1960.

I’d heard about a world of colour
but I’d never truly believed
until I stumbled into the glen of light
where, stretched out before me, I’d see

row upon row, in an endless twirl
colours of every hue
turning peacefully before me
reminding me all of you.

This is my first ever entry to Magpie Tales. Wish me luck! *smile*
