Wow… This blog, A Glass of Bubbly, my little baby, just had its’ 20,000th view since the inception on 12 June 2011. Can you imagine that! I can’t, not really. I suppose I have become a little bit more blasé about the site stats over the past few months, but there is still something really rewarding knowing that others have read your work. Especially on a day when not much else feels good in life.
20,000 views in less than six months… Wow! A Glass of Bubbly may not be quite as bubbly as it was in the beginning, I rarely post more than once or twice in a day, and I have thought of giving up on occasion, but still… My almost 800 posts have been looked at 20,000 times since June. That is actually quite a lot, isn’t it?
I wish there was some way to find out who is actually viewing, but I believe that is one of the drawbacks of WordPress. It is only when you, the reader, leaves a comment or likes a piece that I can see who you are (maybe I shouldn’t say that?), and many, many of the views are completely anonymous. A theory of mine is that quite a few of the beautiful images I have used as inspiration over the past months get hits from search-engines and that then shows up as a view of A Glass of Bubbly. Occasionally, when I write opinion pieces on current affairs (which I haven’t done in quite a while now, come to think of it) I know the views will go up on that particular post, but what about all those other views? Where do they come from? We are talking about a site that focuses mainly on one half-mad woman in a country so far off the beaten track that even Santa Claus might not find it (though it is said he lives here), and her less than cultural poetry and views of the world!
OK, so I had a friend who was doing a blog with a few others and they’d had over 100,000 views in eight months… Then again, his blog reviewed various items for out-door life and not so much about poetry (and he was doing it with a few friends). The problem is I just don’t know what to compare my stats with! And I know I should simply just sit here in awe and be grateful – which I do and I am – but the concept of not being good enough is too deeply ingrained in me to just let go and accept what feels like success! Isn’t that sad? Human nature, but sad nonetheless.
So, 20,000 views in six months… Almost 800 posts in six months… Thank you all so very, very much for taking the time to read! For being there, somewhere, in the blogosphere and if you are reading this you are one of the next 20,000 viewers of A Glass of Bubbly and one of the next 20,000 reasons I keep doing this! It is always nicer to have A Glass of Bubbly with friends than on your own!
