Faceless man, anonymous lover
why is your image locked in my brain?
Etched forever in the evening sunlight?
Burned, scarred, into soft summer rain?
I never even knew you, just saw you that once,
your face even then only blurred.
Faceless man, anonymous lover
From where come memories so long unheard?
Rough to the touch was your sandpaper skin
I drowned in eyes that I don’t think I saw.
I never even knew you, just that once
with feelings so cruelly and passionately raw.
I wish I could un-see all that you showed me
take back the hours locked in your arms.
Rough to the touch was your sandpaper skin
diabolical, deceptive your hypnotizing charms.
We scratched and we bit, we howled like wild
caught up in a primordial mating dance.
I wish I could un-see all that you showed me
reclaim my belief in true romance.
You know you have no room here
and my heart’s not yours to claim
We scratched and we bit,
we howled like wild
but I still see your blurred face
in the soft summer rain.

now that’s scary
*smile* I don’t know if that’s a compliment or not, but I’ll take it as if it was… So thank you!
Sounds unforgettable for less than pleasant reasons!
I saw another comment who said it sounded like re-visiting a dream… And it is something like that. I was focusing on the side of his face that you can’t see and it all started with the faceless and anonymous lover….
Very interesting. It feels like deja-vu. I have heard of people seeing someone and who think they have met this person but they never had.
Or perhaps someone that suddenly appears in a dream. The animalistic howls in the second half of the poem is quite intense. The narrator seems bewitched.
Enjoyed this one very much — mysterious, a little scary and definitely will stick in the mind.
I wasn’t quite sure where this one came from, to be honest… I was focusing on the blurry side of his face and suddenly… But the dream scenario sounds like it fits. *smile* Thank you for reading and for an extremely kind comment!
Very cool–love it. Kind of sinister and haunting–wanting to “un-see”.
Thank you very much! 🙂
Nice interpretation of the prompt here 🙂
Thank you very much!
Awesome!
Loved it!
an elusive world lurks

It sent me rushing for the moisturising body lotion!! LOL
I will take that as a compliment, but with a wide smile on my face! Thank you for reading!
