Cute Dust Monster That Tickles by Psithyrus on Deviantart.com

It was a matter of urgency,
so I ran with news of insurgency
‘Man the walls, bring the children to safety!’
‘It is coming’ I added hastily!

From every nook and cranny
they all stirred, and they were many
who lined up, fearfully, in defence
with bated breath, full of suspense.

From the corner of my eye I spied it
as it advanced, the death-bringing gadget
and with a roar closed in it did
while women screamed and children hid.

The life of a dust mite is not too long
but we’d heard our ancestors sing the song
of assaults in times of yore
the gadget had struck before.

As it approached I felt the pull
a suction strong and all-powerful
I saw our first line of defence disappear
the second the gadget ventured near!

In moments it had us defeated
will to fight and courage depleted!
I held on for dear life to the living room rug
but suddenly came an almighty tug.

Swept away into the darkness
voices screamed in terrified madness
and all was lost
in the filter I was quashed
a dust mite’s life ends with sadness.

One night upon my travels far
I stumbled on a fancy bar
with music loud and flowing wine
I met a man with eyes of tar.

He said: My dear, you look so fine!
It’s in my heart to make you mine.
He kissed my hand, he kissed my lips
let for a moment true love shine.

His hands upon my naked hips
we met in the night, two sailing ships
but when the morrow’s sun did rise
like shadow from his bed I slip.

My lonely journey has a price,
to never hold the same man twice
and as I travel near and far
my heart is now as cold as ice.

Day 18 of NaPoWriMo 2014 and today’s challenge was to write either a Ruba’i or a Rubaiyat (which is a collection of Ruba’i-s)… Writing to form has always scared me, but I decided to give it a go, with a basic AABA BBCB rhyme. Hope you enjoyed!
