Last night Death knocked on my door
‘Let me in’ he said, ‘we’ve got to talk’.
‘What is this I hear that you long for me?
Are you so blind that you can’t see
all the good things that you have?
Why would you say you’d rather be dead?’
‘Don’t you know how fortunate you are
who have friends around you, from near and far?
You have a loving family
so why would you ever call for me?’
I was stunned, I didn’t know what to say?
But I knew he was right, this was not the way.
Last night Reality knocked on my door
‘Let me in’, she said, ‘we’ve got to talk’.
‘What is this I hear that you run from me?’
‘Are you so blind? Why can’t you see?
That there is no place to hide away
from life, and you can’t spend your days
curled up in a corner, lost in fantasy!’
‘Just stop your complaining and don’t you cry!
You should stand up and enjoy your life,
buckle yourself in for this roller-coaster ride! ‘
I was stunned, I felt ashamed!
I knew she was right, life must be claimed!
Last night Love knocked on my door
‘Let me in’, he said, ‘we’ve got to talk’.
‘What is this I hear that you’re scared of me?’
‘Are you so blind that you can’t see
a life without love is misery?’
‘Yes, you’ve been hurt, but that’s history!
You can’t hide away and just pretend
you can make it alone until the end!’
‘You must have hope, you must believe!
And to meet love you’ve got to feel!’
As he left I took a real good look
at myself in the mirror upon a hook.
I didn’t like the me I saw
too afraid to let go, to lose control.
A me who spends her time hiding from life,
from love and who often longs for death.
I took a deep breath and wiped my tears
I straightened my back and shed my fears!
This is the new me, just you look and see
Stand back and watch me as I’m set free
from all the old bonds and old routines
it’s time for me now – and I believe!
I have to admit that this poem wasn’t specifically written to fit the image for Photo Challenge #9 – Lotus Song over at Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie. This scribble is based on a process and thoughts I feel I’m experiencing right now. However, as I was done writing I felt that the beautiful image wasn’t all wrong for the piece anyway… So here we go. *smile* Hope you enjoyed!
