Why willfully wait where wraiths wander?
Why waste water when thirsty you are?
Who writes those words of awe and wonder?
Wails wordlessly up at the stars?
Why willfully walk where wizards wheeze?
Why wreck our world for one mistake?
Who wishes to wake up, wet and whiny?
With winds that whirl and waves that break?
Why willfully wince at worthy women?
Why wager your wages and gold?
Who was worst, I ask, the wife or the wonder
who left you wasted, wrung out and cold?
When wise, willful words wake wayward walkers,
when wisdom is wished for by all,
will we, perhaps, wake up to a new world
where the wizened wise are worth more than fool’s gold?
